7 Remarkable Things About Khadija, Wife of the Prophet of Islam

I often get into debates with people about women in Islam. How we dress. How we don’t dress. What we think or don’t think or should-be-thinking. I get into debates about feminism. What it is and what it isn’t. I think I’ve spawned permanent foes because I don’t care to apply the label, feminist, to describe myself. (I’m not one for labels, sorry. But if it’s even required of me, “Muslim woman” suits me just fine.) But if we could agree for a moment that there exists a pure definition of the word feminist to mean: awesomely fierce to the millionth degree, then I’d like to introduce you to Islam’s first feminist. Her name is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. She was the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him.) And she is one of the people that I think about when I face or debate issues surrounding women today. Khadija’s existence precedes mine by more than 1,400 years; and, if I can at the very least, continuously strive to emulate her character, I will consider mysel...

Nostalgia

Image
Cairo - Downtown, 13.01.2016 Cairo, Egypt - Downtown -  Mohamed Mahmoud -  Bab Ellouk - DSB  I felt I want to have a walk in downtown. The sky was perfectly pure blue and the sun was beautifully warm shining. I walked with no intention nor a specific aim. I left my foot to lead the walk. And all of a sudden a storm of nostalgia and mixture of emotions hit me. All the memories, all the hard times, long nights and struggles were right infront of me. Now, I remember everything. It feels so real. It feels so fresh as if it was just yesterday. And here we are again. Who thought that this day would come again? And who thought that we would ever meet once again? I never thought that I will be standing here again, but this time without the bright blue skirt and the yellow blouse and fully aware of the adulthood.  With a surprise,  it was right in front of me. These dark orange walls that once used to look too high and it's bright green windows... but...

History

Some people believe that without history our lives amount to nothing. At some point we all have to choose. Do we fall back on what we know or do we step forward to something new? It’s hard not to be haunted by our past. Our history is what shapes us, what guides us. Our history resurfaces time after time after time. So we have to remember, the most important history is the history we’re making today.

Writing to you gives me company

I’m a globie girl that wants to explore as much as possible of the world and get do know more about different cultures. I was born to travel. (Will get to the travelling part later) I am from Cairo and have Turkish roots like most of Egyptians. I was born in Vienna, were I was raised and spent my teen - year’s. Vienna plays a big role in my life. If I started to talk about my love to this country, it’s a never-ending love story and I won’t finish today. - I need to finish because I still got a lot to do for today, maybe in another post -.  People who know me very well, know that I regard Egypt my country and my home, but not only because of my roots, family and friends who live there, but because I truthfully love it. There is something about Egypt and until this moment know one has figured out what is this “Something”. If you talked to any Egyptian who lived abroad especially in a not Middle Eastern country, he will understand what I’m saying. Unfortunately, Egyptians...

So What?!

01.02.2011 Do you really think when you forbid telephone lines for a while, the internet and even not allowing people to walk on streets after 3 pm till 8 in the morning, will change anything?? Well my dear I guess you are wrong informed. You are building a very big wall between you and your nation. People feel suppressed and hatred is growing everyday stronger in their hearts. I am sitting since almost a week now at home and can not go out on the streets, just like everyone. No internet; means I have no connection with the other world, no connection with my very close friends in other countries. All I can do is watching the news on “Algesira”, “Alarabiya” and “BBC”. I hear from time to time “Bombs” -very near to my house- and I do not know if someone got killed or not. The only positive thing about is that I actually realized in this week, I have spent much more time with my family. Sometimes I ask my self, does life really make sense, when we all someday will die? Most of things ...
