Essmat Mohsen El Eskandarany (1898 - 1973): aka Om El Baharia (The Mother of the Navy) - النص العربى يتبع
She is the granddaughter of the Egyptian Navy Admiral Hasan Pasha El Askandaray a.k.a "The Prince of the Seas" who died fighting in the Crimean War between Turkey and Russia in 1854.
From a young age, she had a passion for the sea, the ships, travel, the legend of her grandfather, the history of the Egyptian navy, the naval battles that the Arabs fought and the Arab travelers. 
She travelled around the world for 18 years and was named Bint Batouta, after the Arab traveler Ibn Batouta who lived in the 14th century.
In 1948, she donated a fully equipped naval ship to the Egyptian navy. She also donated her house in Ras El Tin in Alexandria to the navy. She willed all her money and property to the navy. 
In 1955, President Nasser awarded her the highest medal of honor. 
She had written many articles and publications about the History of the Arabs, the naval battles and the wars that her grandfather fought in. 
She founded, Om El Baharia NGO that until this date, it provides assistants to navy sailors and junior officers. Members of the NGO are wives and daughters of the navy officers.

حفيدة أمير البحر (حسن باشا الاسكندراني) قائد البحرية المصرية الذي استشهد في (حرب القرم) بين تركيا و روسيا عام 1854م
تعلقت منذ صباها بالبحر والسفن والأسفار، وبمجد جدها «أمير البحار»، وبتاريخ البحرية المصرية ومواقعها الحربية، وبأمجاد العرب في البحار.
و قامت برحلات متتابعة خلال 18 عاما في رحلاتها الاستكشافية والدراسية حتى أطلق عليها «بنت بطوطة»، لكثرة أسفارها، 
ما أن قامت الحرب قامت بالتبرع بسفينة حربية مجهزة كاملًة على نفقتها الخاصة، وأهدتها إلى القوات البحرية، كما أهدت منزلها الواقع في رأس التين بالإسكندرية إلى القوات البحرية ليكون ناديًا بحريًا، ووهبت جميع ممتلكاتها من عقارات و أراض زراعية وما لديها من مال في وصيتها بعد وفاتها للكلية البحرية، مساهمًة منها للنهوض بأسطول مصر، ليضارع أكبر أساطيل العالم.
أهدى إليها الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر وساماالكمال الذهبى فى عام 1955
لها العديد من المقالات و المؤلفات عن التاريخ العربي والشرقي وأمجاده و المواقع البحرية التى شارك فيها العرب و الحروب التى خاضها جدها، 
رحمها الله كونت جمعية خيرية بعد ذلك وسميت باسمها جمعية ام البحرية ومازالت الجمعية قائمة حتى الان وهى تخدم جنود وضباط الصف فى البحرية وعضواتها من زوجات وبنات ضباط البحرية
